• Marriage Anniversary: 11 Jun 1930, Morton Mains Cottages, Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland. Golden Wedding
At Ratho, on 11th June 1880, James Brodie was married to Margaret Hutchison by Rev Archibald Bisset. This happy couple celebrated their Golden Wedding at Morton Mains Cottages on 11th June 1930. Rev John S Ewen, Minister of Liberton, presided over a large gathering of relations and friends. After the wedding ceremony was over the company sat down to dinner, fifty strong, in the old farm bothy which had been transformed by loving hands to look like a fairy palace. The Minister in congratulating the happy pair referred to the long and happy union in which both husband and wife had chosen to 'scorn delights and live laborious days' in the interests of their home, and had thereby shown an example to all the young folks present who were contemplating marriage. Me Ewen remarked that no reference to the lives of Mr and Mrs Brodie would be complete without mentioning the great interest which they both took in all that pertained to the welfare of the Church. He concluded by remarking that there seemed no reason why they should not all meet in the bothy again ten years hence to enjoy the celebration of the DIamond Wedding. Mr Brodie in the course of his reply promised to do his best to oblige the company by keeping himself and his wife alive for another ten years, because they were so happy to have all their friends around them in this social intimacy. He had great reason to thank God for all His goodness to him and his.
