• He worked as a Coal Miner. According to the death certificate of his son John in 1910.

• He worked as a Labourer. According to marriage certificate of son John in 1862.

John married Esther Deacon, daughter of William Deacon and Mary Duncan. (Esther Deacon was born circa 1805 in Ireland and died on 28 Oct 1880 in 25 Castle Street, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland.) The cause of her death was senile decay.
